If you believe that you have a potential claim for VA Disability, I recommend that you go to https://eauth.va.gov/ebenef... and setup an account, then file a claim.
Once a claim has been started, you have 1 year to complete the claim and the back pay starting date is the 1st of the following month after the initial online filing process
Next step, go to a VSO (Veteran Service Officer) through the VFW, American Legion, AmVets, DAV, Vietnam Veterans of America.
The VSO will discuss the claim info and give you the proper forms to have your VA Doctor or Private Physician to fill out.
Make a doctors appointment and have the papers filled out.
Return them to your VSO and he will fax them to the VA Claims Center for your Region.
I personally made copies of all my doctors forms to keep just in case someone later said that they did not receive it. I also kept all VA correspondence and my C&P Exam Letters.
I initially spent 150 to 200 hours researching different court appeals of the VA Claims.
Do not do as I did, I waited 9 years after being diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus.
I cheated myself out of a lot of money but I felt unworthy, I had all my arms and legs, plus there was certain things that I did not want to talk about for the PTSD.
I am also a Purple Heart recipient. (gunshot wound in my leg)
I filed my claim for Diabetes Mellitus 4 years ago at age 65, I was awarded 20% plus $100.00 SMC (K1) for ED.
I waited 4 years (age 69) to file for PTSD and Neuropathy.
Started my claim online 22 Apr 2016
After the VSO filed my claim forms 16 Jun 2016, on 1 Sep 2006 I was awarded:
PTSD 100%
Neuropathy 80% - Secondary to Diabetes Mellitus
Cataracts 20%
SMC (S-1) $350.00 extra per month because percentage in excess of 160%
Total: $3,518.97 (married extra $162.07 is included)
